I began my marine science career in 1981 teaching environmental education and soon moved into leadership roles, serving as director of environmental education programs in Maine and Massachusetts for 15 years. I created and implemented lessons for students, staff and classroom teachers and It is here I developed a deep passion for hands-on, experiential learning that connects us to the natural world.
In 1984, I began teaching at the Acadia Institute of Oceanography, and in 1991 I became its owner and Executive Director, a role I held until 2025. Over those years, I worked with nearly 10,000 students, expanded international marine programs, and created meaningful opportunities for science learning.
Throughout my career, my focus has remained on inspiring curiosity, stewardship, and a lifelong connection to the ocean, which led me to found Sea Star Explorations to continue offering year-round educational and cultural adventures for curious minds of all ages.
Sea Star Explorations inspires a deeper understanding of our oceans through hands-on travel and immersive educational experiences.
With over 40 years of marine science programming, we connect participants with conservation efforts, global cultures, and meaningful work in ocean environments.
